M.K.Gandhi (Mohandas Karamchand   Gandhi) known as the Father of Nation  was the most important political leader in India's struggle for freedom from British Rule. People call him Bapu (father) out of all the respect and affection they have towards him. He was the Law Barister and had went to London to study Law. M K Gandhi also practised law & worked against apartheid (meaning racial discrimination system) in South Africa for few years, then returned to India to be part of India's own independence struggle and joined Indian National Congress and later he became its president. He took the path of truth & non violence (ahimsa), to pursue his freedom struggle.  At that time this path was followed by all the moderate leaders of the freedom movement, and the common citizens of India, against the British Rule for securing India's complete independence from them. Gandhi's Biggest Weapon in the India's freedom movement was Satyagrah. Two biggest and historical steps that M.K.Gandhi took in India's pursuit of freedom were the Quit India movement & Non Co-operation movement. He gave a new name ' Harijan' (People of God) to the people who were then considered untouchables and also to those who were socially backward. M.K.Gandhi was Born in one of the district of India's Gujrat State called  Porbandar  on 2nd, October 1869. While going for his routine prayer, he was assassinated (killed) on 31st, January 1948 by Nathu Ram Godse, who was later hanged by the Court of Justice for his deed. The entire place where M.K.Gandhi was cremated after his death, has been dedicated as his Samadhi Sthala. It is called as Raj Ghat in Delhi, capital of India, since, he was the foremost leader who, led India in getting its own Raj (home rule) i.e total independence on 15th of August in year 1947 from British.
